So it’s the day after the Peachtree Road Race 10k…

…and my whole body aches — nothing specific, for which I’m grateful, but just an overall ache. My only official battle wound is two blisters in the same place on each foot. I count myself lucky. Several of my friends have knees that hurt or feet that hurt, and I don’t have either of those.

Yesterday’s race took me 1 hour and 51 minutes to complete. I would like to be able to complete the course in under 1 hour, which I think is very possible if I train correctly.

Prior to yesterday, I had goals of someday really training and being able to run a half-marathon. During yesterday’s race, I decided that 6.2 miles is actually far enough for my body. I’m just not a natural runner, so running takes effort for me, and there’s no reason I can think of to push my body so far beyond comfort.

During a 10k, I am fine until mile 5. There, I hit the “okay, it’s time for this to be over” wall. Why would I want to almost double the distance?

I do, however, want to do the Peachtree again. Next year, I’m going to be more deliberate about the parking situation. Marta is a great option except for the other 50,000 people that also choose the public transportation. Getting to the station and on a train just about killed my tired body. Next year, I’m going to park a car close to the finish line and get a ride to the start.

I am very proud though of Ben and myself for completing the race. Without his words of encouragement, there is no way I would have done the race, let alone finished. Thanks, Ben.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to next year! Yay for running/walking success!
